frequently asked questions
How does Angrezi Journey work?
Volunteers and learners are paired based on the languages they speak. Volunteers receive a short training (more information can be found on Info Center) and some lesson plans they may choose to follow. Volunteers will then contact their learners to set up times for their online sessions. These online sessions will be recorded for security reasons. If there are any concerns or policy violations, please let us know as soon as possible! We are here to help you through your journey!

How often are classes held?
Classes will be scheduled as best suited for both the volunteer and learner. As part of our Summer 2020 program, there will be 10 classes held for 30 minutes each. The number of classes and the length of these classes will vary from program to program.

What will the volunteers be teaching the learners?
The main goal is to improve English through conversations, videos, articles, and more. Volunteers will be given some lesson plans, lists of topics to cover, as well as some links to videos and articles they may want to show. Although these plans will be open for volunteers to use, volunteers are more than welcome to come up with their own lesson plans as long as they help improve their learner’s English. Adjust the lesson plans to cater to your learner!

Other than English, which languages do Angrezi Journey volunteers speak?
Our team is ever-growing and we try to include volunteers that speak various languages. As of right now, our volunteers speak languages including Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. However, as we said, our team is still growing and please do not be afraid to sign up if your language is not mentioned here. Chances are we'll soon have a volunteer to cater to your needs. If a problem arises with language barriers, we will let you know as soon as possible! Please feel free to reach out to us as well.

Can I be a part of two programs at once?
Yes, we will try our best to cater to your schedule so you can be a part of both. This applies to both learners as well as volunteers!

What does 4H affiliated mean?
4H is an organization with the mission to help "to enable youth to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to become competent, caring, and contributing citizens of the world." They are also a youth development program of Rutgers Cooperative Extension at Rutgers University. Angrezi Journey works as a program under 4H in order to ensure that our volunteers get their community service hours and the recognition they deserve. Our Volunteer Administrator will help guide volunteers through the process as they sign up under 4H. All year long youth volunteers must be registered under 4H to receive hours. You can find out more about 4H on their websites, 4-h.org or nj4h.rutgers.edu.

Is Angrezi Journey registered as a non-profit organization?
We work under New Jersey 4H at Rutgers, which is a registered 501(c)(3) organization in New Jersey. Youth volunteers will be getting their hours from 4H, so their hours will be able to count as community service hours. Working with a non-profit organization allows us to bring forth the best possible experience for both our learners and volunteers!
